Presentation to Rev R. Byers. A happy gathering was held at the residence of Mr D. Irwin on Saturday evening when members of the Carter - ton Hockey Club gathered to say farewell to the Rev Ralph Byers, who is leaving Carterton to take charge of a new Presbytery at St Alban’s, Christchurch. The evening was occupied with games, competitions, and community singing. / At an appropriate interval Mr Jas Fisher, president of the Carterton Club, made a presentation of a silver teapot to the guest of the evening. The speaker said the Carterton Club would be loosing a first-rate hockey player. He had been a member of the Carterton Club for four years and during that period had represented Wairarapa in representative hockey, and it went without saying his services to hockey both to Carterton and the Wairarapa would be greatly missed. In bidding farewell to their guest he asked Mr Byers to accept a silver teapot as a slight recognition of his services for the club on the hockey field. Mr By£rs suitably responded and told clubmates that he would always have happy recollections of his pleasant associations with the Carterton Hockey Club, and the Wairarapa generally. Community singing, competitions and games were indulged in during the evening which ended with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” _______
