THE LATE SIR TRUBY KING
Memorial Appeal by Plunket Society
STRONGLY SUPPORTED BY GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES A national appeal for a sum of £5.000, to be expended in establishing a memorial to the late Sir Trilby King, is made by the Royal New Zealand Society .for the Health of Women and Children (the Plunket Society), of which Sir Truby King was . the founder. . As may be seen from the statements which appear below, the appeal is supported and endorsed whole-heartedly by the Prime Minister and other Ministers of the Crown and by leading local and district representatives. It has been decided by the Plnnket Society that the memorial to Sir Truby King shall take the following form: £2,000 to be set aside as an endowment fund, the income of which to be handed to the Wellington branch committee to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of Truby King House. (This was the home -of the late Sir Truby King, which was bequeathed by him to the Society for mothercraft work.) £2,500 or more to be invested for the purpose of providing a post-graduate course for Plunket and Karitane Nurses. £3OO to be expended on a suitable bronze plaque or other monument to be erected above the burial ground of the late Sir Truby King. £lOO to be set aside for a portrait of Sir Truby King to to be hung in a suitable place in Truby King House above an appropriate inscription. “In making this appeal,” the Dominion Executive of the Plunket Society observes, “it is hardly necessary for us to point out that the late Sir Truby King devoted his life to the welfare of the women and children of this Dominion. To his painsn taking research, amazing energy and enthusiasm, New Zealand and the world owe a tremendous debt of gratitude. “Eminent men throughout the world have referred to Sir Truby King as being one of the greatest benefactors to mankind. We are proud that he was a New Zealander, and that the work which has made his name famous was established in this Dominion.” WIDE RESPONSE SOUGHT Donations to the Truby King Memorial Fund will be received by all branches of the Plunket Society. In Masterton, donations will be received at the Plunket Rooms, Central Arcade. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the Rooms are open from 1.30 p.m. to 4. p.m. On Wednesday they. are open from 10 a.in. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the broadcast appeal, the Masterton branch is issuing a large number of circulars, and it asks all to remember that “He gives twice who gives quickly.” It is felt that the best possible response to the appeal would be a multitude of modest donations. Contributions to the Memorial Fund may be made to the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, or the Town Clerk or, if desired, be forwarded to the “Wairarapa Times-Age” Office and will be duly acknowledged.
