SPECTACULAR FIGHT

BETWEEN TWO BULLS ON ROAD. ONE ANIMAL CHARGES CAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, May 13. The spectacle of two bulls engaged in a vigorous fight in the middle of the road confronted a Pahiatua motorist while driving through the Makuri Gorge at about 9.30 on a recent evening. Both bulls, one a Jersey, and the other a Shorthorn, were dehorned, but that apparently made little difference to the ferocity of the encounter, and judging by the cloud of steam that surrounded the combatants in the still night air the fight had been in progress for some time. The motorist came on the animals so suddenly that he had to make a very quick stop to avoid striking them. The road in the gorge is very narrow, and as it would have been dangerous, to back his car in the darkness he was compelled to await developments. These were not long in coming, as the Jersey bull immediately turned and charged the car, striking it on the left front mudguard and shattering the light on that side. The Jersey' continued on past the car, followed by the Shorthorn, and the motorist was able to continue his journey. Blood and hair on the damaged mudguard indicated that the bull received ' injury of some sort in his encounter with the car.
