PACIFIC DEFENCE

NO FURTHER CONFERENCE PLANNED AN ADMIRALTY DENIAL. RETICENCE AS TO BATTLESHIP REPORT. (Independent Service.) LONDON, May 11. Reports circulating in London that a conference of all the British naval forces in the Far East will shortly be held in Singapore are scouted at the Admiralty, where it is pointed out that the commanders-in-chief ’ of the East Indies Squadrons conferred in March, and that a Pacific Defence Conference had only just been held in New Zealand. The Admiralty refuse to comment on a report that, as a result of the New Zealand conference, certain British battleships have been earmarked for the Pacific in the even of emergency.
