LONDON QUOTATIONS LAMB PRICES IMPROVE. CHILLED BEEF MARKET FIRM. Lamb market: There is a better feeling in the market and prices where changed have advanced slightly. Consumption continues good. Mutton market: Wethers, prices generally easier owing to lack of demand. Ewes* steady, but trade quiet. Beef market: Frozen beef, better inquiry, owing to higher prices chilled. Chilled beef, firmei- on the good trade and lighter supplies. N.Z. porker pigs: Trade quiet with prices unchanged. N.Z. baconer pigs: Steady. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week all prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market. Compared with last week’s quotations, Down lambs id per lb higher. crossbred lambs 36/421bs Jd per lb higher, wethers 48/721bs Jd per lower, others unchanged. The lamb market is steady, but the demand for New Zealand mutton is poor. The market on the spot is weaker.”
