SPEERS SENTENCED

THREE YEARS’ HARD LABOUR. APPEAL. POINT ABANDONED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Percy Reginald Speers, a draper, aged 42, found guilty by a jury of illegally using an instrument to procure miscarriage, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with hard labour by Mr Justice Smith this morning. His Honour said the point of law which was to have been reserved for the Court of Appeal had been abandoned by counsel, who since yesterday had found decisions against it.
