LEAGUE COUNCIL
POSTPONEMENT OF .MEETING SOUGHT BY RUSSIA. TO ALLOW REPRESENTATIVE TO ATTEND. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.18 a.m.) RUGBY, May 11. It is understood that negotiations are in train in Geneva for the postponement of the meeting of the League Council. According to rotation, it is the turn of the Russian member to preside and the Soviet is believed to desire more time to allow her representative to reach Geneva. In the past, M. LitvinofT has generally attended and it is likely that if M. Molotoff cannot himself leave Moscow, the Soviet would wish M. Potemkin to represent Russia. It is surmiseci that the purpose of M. Maisky's call today on Lord Halifax was to solicit Britain’s interest in favour of a postponement of the meeting. ' It may be assumed that Britain would be agreeable to a short postponement. PROVISIONAL POSTPONEMENT. (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, May 11. The meeting of the League Council has been postponed provisionally until May 22.
