“MURDER FOR PROFIT”
STAGGERING REVELATION IN U.S.A. AT LEAST 280 IIIVES TAKEN BY SYNDICATE. TWENTY-FIVE MEN & WOMEN ARRESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) PHILADELPHIA, May 11. It is announced that 25 men and women have been arrested in connec* tion with a vast “murder for profit” syndicate, which, it is now believed, took at least 280 lives in eight years. It is revealed that the organisation had a branch office in Pittsburgh, also representatives in nearby states to carry out amazing murder schemes. The ring aided dissatisfied wives to poison their husbands, for which it collected a share of insurance. It is understood-that the syndicate also performed cold-blooded killings for lump sum payments. Thirteen widows are among the prisoners and eleven are charged with murdering their husbands, eight of them, it is alleged, having confessed.
