The British United Press correspondent at Rome learns authoritatively that Italy and Germany have rejected the Pope’s proposals, for a conference to discuss the PolishGerman. dispute, on the ground 'that the situation' is not sufficiently serious to endanger European peace. Vatican diplomats have received this assurance with a certain optimism, as indicating (hat Herr Hitler does not intend to precipitate a crisis at present.
