“New Zealand is a fisherman’s paradise,” said Mr Michael Lerner, a noted American ichthyotomist. who passed through Auckland by the Monterey for the United States. “We have good fishing in our country,” he added, "but we could not guarantee as one could here the number of strikes and the number of marlins. Altogether. Mrs Lerner and I caught 38 fish in New Zealand, including mako and thresher sharks, in a month at Russell and Mayor Island. There is more black marlin in Australian waters than in most other parts of the world." Mi' Lerner said. “The expedition took numerous pictures of fish caught in New Zealand waters. Those pictures, when published, will give wide publicity to the country, and should be of great benefit to the Dominion in the coming year, especially as you are celebrating your centenary. They should bring many anglers and others here.”
