AUXILIARY BRANCH FORMED IN MASTERTON. At a meeting held at the residence of Mrs Tolhurst, Cole Street, on Tuesday, it was unanimously decided to form a branch of the Auxiliary Nursing Service in Masterton. The following committee has been elected: Patron, Mrs T. Jordan; advisory committee, Misses Barnett,' Brown, Whitehouse, J. K. McKenzie, and Hodges, and Mesdames J. Robertson and A. F. Stewart; president, Miss L. Hosking; committee, Mrs P. Borthwick, Misses M. McLaren, N. Robinson, N. Beetham, B. Barton and J. Betts; secretary. Miss S. Beetham; treasurer, Miss H. Hill. The object of the Service is to give assistance in times of emergency such as in the event of war, earthquake, flood, epidemics or any other disastrous event.

In order to attain a degree of efficiency members of the Service will take a course in first aid and home nursing under the auspices of the St John Ambulance. The course will take three months, at the conclusion of which members will be given the opportunity of having practical instruction at the Masterton Public Hospital. Classes will be held every Tuesday evening under Miss Whitehouse, of the St John Ambulance Brigade, and will commence on Tuesday, May--16, at 7.45 p.m. in the Municipal Buildings. Anyone wishing to join the Service is requested to ring the secretary, Miss S. Beetham, telephone 2205, as soon as possible.
