TEACHERS’ HOURS
WAIRARAPA REMIT ADOPTED. INQUIRY TO BE MADE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A decision to set up a committee to obtain data concerning hours worked by post-primary school teachers, and the nature of that work, was made by the annual conference of the New Zealand Secondary School Assistants’ Association yesterday. A remit to that effect from the Wairarapa branch was adopted, and Wairarapa' was authorised to undertake the inquiry. A further remit asking the Minister t ) alter the staffing regulations of postprimary schools in such a way as tc give full recognition to the amount of time required from teachers for out-of-class activities was withdrawn on the understanding that the question would be considered by the committee. The sponsors of the remit stated that unless teacners were to be asked to work 50 hours a week, they could not give full attention to physical training, games, library, dramatic work and other cultural activities, and give a reasonable amount of time to preparation and marking of class work. The following officers were elected: President, Mr 11. A. Heron; vicepresident, Miss L. S. Morton; North Island representatives, Dr W. M. Smith, Miss R. Jenkins; South Island representatives. Mr H.
