PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. Aymes, who has been visiting Mr and Mrs C. R. Tocker, “The Priory,” has returned to Otaki. Messrs R. J. and A. G. Yule, who have been holiday making in Australia, returned on Monday by the Wanganella. They travelled extensively and report having had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. Through the closing of the Kaiwaiwai School, • the sporting fraternity will suffer by the departure of Miss E. Tully. During her two years’ residence in Featherston Miss Tully proved herself to be a very efficient tennis player, having carried off championship honours. She also played a very useful’ game of golf. Of a quiet disposition, Miss Tully made many friends who will be sorry to learn of her departure. It is not yet known to which school she will be appointed. Miniature Rifles. The following are the best scores recorded at the weekly shoot by the South Featherston Miniature Rifle Club: —Men: A. Ashworth 99, C. Bain 99, M. Hodder 99, L. Rasmussen 99, A. Gain 98, D. Cross 97. Ladies: Mrs W. Willis 95, Miss J. Burt 94, Miss G. Fenwick 92. Boys: B. Bull 93, W. Mellish 93. The following boys have to shoot off for Mr A. Yule’s trophy: A. Burt, A. Cross and R. Rasmussen. Hockey. The newly-formed ladies’ hockey team is exceptionally fortunate in having the services of Mrs F. J. Staples as their coach. Mrs Staples is thoroughly conversant with the game, having won representative honours on many occasions. She is keenly interested in the promotion of the game, and is largely responsible for the launching of the junior team. The girls are showing keenness for the game and are turning out in great numbers to the practices, which must be very pleasing to their coach. Birthday Party. A very happy afternoon was spent at “Awahou” on Tuesday when Miss June Card entertained a large number of her friends on the occasion of her birthday. An extremely enjoyable time was spent in playing games and competitions, the ’ winners being as follows:—Monica i Taylor, June Elliott, Norma Shepherd, Mildred Rowles, Esma Saba, Kathleen Brophy and Doreen Lowell. After afternoon tea, the girls showered their presents on June, who gracefully acknowledged each gift. There were guests from as far afield as Levin and Masterton to extend birthday wishes to Miss Card. Drivers' Licences. The Town Clerk, Mr H. Rolls, anticipates a busy day on Friday, when the first of the drivers’ licences will be issued. People are advised to procure their licences early and thus avoid that last-minute rush. National Party. A reminder is given that the annual meeting of the Featherston branch of the National Party will be held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall, Featherston, tonight. The annual meeting of the Featherston ladies’ branch of the National Party will be held at the Anzac Hall on Monday at 2 p.m. An address will be given at 3 p.m. by Mr C. Bell.
