CARTERTON
CAR AND LORRY COLLIDE. ONE VEHICLE BADLY DAMAGED. (“Times-Age" Special.) An accident that might have been attended by more serious consequences occurred at the junction of Brooklyn and Lincoln roads, Carterton, yesterday afternoon, when a collision took place between a motor car driven by Mrs P. Ashton, who was accompanied by her daughter, and a motor lorry driven by Mr R. J. Newlands, of Chapel Street, Masterton. Mrs Ashton was proceeding home along Brooklyn Road and the motor lorry was approving from the south along Lincoln Road. The impact was a severe one. The left hand side rear mudguard of the car was badly crumpled and the wheel damaged. The impact turned the car round on the road and carried it to a ditch on the northern side of the road, capsizing it into the drain. The door of the car swung open and Miss Ashton was thrown into the water. The wind - screen was broken and the two occupants received slight injuries, The motor lorry was hardly damaged. The car was towed in.to Carterton for repairs. GOLF. DRAW FOR LADIES' GAMES. The following is the draw for the Coronation Medal and Aotea Cup and the L.G.U. Miss Armstrong and Mrs Callender will be in charge of afternoon tea arrangements. MEN’S GAMES. The following is the draw for a fourball bogey competition to be played on the Taratahi links on Saturday by members of the Carterton Golf Club:—

Lawrence and Lane; George and Tankersley v Goodin and Harrington; Hart and Hughes v Kiddie and J. Lawrence. ■Trap Shooting. Next Saturday the final match for the Brough Cup will be fired at Lake Ferry, Pirinoa. At present Messrs Randal Williams and Prussing are leading for the cup with 39 breaks each. Two others are two points down on these shooters. Bowling Club. A special general meeting of the Carterton Bowling and Lawn Tennis Clubs was held in the bowling pavilion last evening for the purpose of considering several matters of interest to club' members. Mr W. C. Robertson, president, presided. It was resolved to apply to the Minister of Internal Affairs for permission to run .an art union in connection with the club, commencing from October next and to be drawn in February of next year. A further meet ■ ing will be held later to discuss matters of interest to the club and its members, when it is hoped all members will be present. Hockey.
