BEGGING RACKET
PROTECTING OF VISITORS IN NEW YORK. DRIVE BY CITY AUTHORITIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, May 8. The city authorities are determined to protect visitors to the World’s Fair from victimisation, and have launched a drive against the begging racket in New York, which it is estimated has an annual “take” of 15,000,000 dollars. It is believed that more than 10,000 "pan-handlers” are now operating.
