BOMBING OF CONSULATES AT CHUNGKING NO ANTI-AIRCRAFT BATTERIES IN AREA. STATEMENT BY CHINESE EMBASSY. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON, May 9. The Chinese Embassy has issued a statement that the bombing of foreign Consulates at Chungking was not an act of self-defence. It points out that the areas are devoid of anti-aircraft batteries. ■‘The Times” Hong Kong correspondent states that women’s infantry regiments, supporting Chinese reinforcements on the West River, are holding up a flanking movement against Shiuhing. The Chinese are also threatening Sunkai and Shekling and have surrounded Sunwei. BRITISH STEAMER SEIZED GUNBOAT TO THE RESCUE. (Received This Day, 10.35 a.m.) SHANGHAI, May 9. The gunboat Scorpion is hastening to aid the British steamer Tungmo, which a Japanese destroyer ordered to heave to in the Yangtse and discharged her cargo.
