ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. At the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Chib held last evening in the clubroom, Municipal Buildings, Mr A.. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presided over a good attendance. Correspondence in Esperanto dealt with included a letter from Wellington and newspapers from Switzerland and China. The president announced the formation of a weekly Esperanto class among the local Boy Scouts who contemplated attending the international Scout Jamboree at Heretaunga at the end of this year. He said this was a splendid move on the part of the Scoutmaster, especially in view of the fact that Scouts from 51 countries have been invited to participate, and in all probabality several thousand Scouts will be under canvas. At such an international gathering. Esperanto will be of great assistance towards ensuring comprehension and the local boys are undergoing a special course of instruction with a view to breaking down the linguistic barriers which will confront them. He wished the class and its tutor, Mr W. H. King, every success. The secretary (Mr King) reviewed the contents of the last issue of the New Zealand magazine. "La Interna Ideo." published entirely in Esperanto at Wellington, this item on the programme creating much interest among club members. Tuition occupied about 11 hours. Mr Dewar gave instruction .to an elementary class, while junior and senior members under the guidance of Mr King combined for further conversational practice in Esperanto.
