COSY THEATRE
“WITHOUT ORDERS.” The romance and drama in the lives of the men who fly today’s transport planes, are excitingly unfolded in “Without Orders,” which will be presented tonight. Taken from a recent story by Peter B. Kyne,' the picture proves to be as thrilling as its title implies. Robert Armstrong, as a transport flyer, and Vinton Haworth, as his reckless rival, both turn in crisply-drawn portrayals, and Sally Eilers as Armstrong’s air hostess provides the romance and many of the thrills, particularly in the breathless climax. Charley Grapewin and Frances Sage are co-featured with the above players. The theme touches upon the responsibility of pilots to their passengers, with the contrasting natures of the two rivals vividly illustrating this point as the plot complications twice endangers the human cargo on a big air liner. Charles Grapewin as Haworth’s father, Frances Sage as Miss Eilers’s sister and Arthur Loft as the radio dispatcher are specially good. If three times is the charm as the old saw goes, then the romantic comedy, “Smartest Girl in Town” should be one of the year’s biggest hits. It marks the third time that Gene Raymond and Ann Sothern have been teamed.
