W.C.T.U.
MONTHLY MEETING. There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. held in Masterton and presided over by Miss Tankersley. Mrs Jansen led the devotions, after which a motion of sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the late Mrs Tankersley and Mrs Elmsley, the members standing in silence. The result of the recent Paddy's Market was successful, though the attendance was somewhat disappointing despite the fact that all’members had been notified. The attention of the meeting was drawn to the report of the sale of confiscated liquor held annually in Wanganui by the police, the bulk of it coming from the King Country, and the proceeds of the sale being passed on to the Consolidated Ijjpnd. This fact brought forth strong feelings of regret that the Government should benefit by such a source of revenue. Mrs Goudge gave a temperance ingAfternoon tea was' handed round by the hostesses, Mesdames Taylor and Kitchener. The meeting terminated _ with the pronouncing of the benediction by Mrs Jansen.
