“TOP OF THE CLASS”

TRIBUTES TO MR W. H. JACKSON. WORK ON TRUST LANDS TRUST. “That this meeting of the Trust Lands Trust voters places on record its appreciation of the long and' valuable services rendered by Mr W. H. Jackson to the Trust and education generally." The foregoing was a resolution passed at last night's annual meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust. Mr Jackson recently tendered his resignation as a member of the Trust after having served for a period of 27 years. The chairman. Mr H. P. Hugo, said it was with regret that they were accepting Mr Jackson's resignation. It was as headmaster of the Masterton District High School that he first became interested in the Trust, and he was'at all times only too ready to help with advice on educational matters. Mr Jackson was elected to the Trust in 1907, and he -resigned from 1919 to 1924, when he was Mayor of the town. He was again re-elected in 1924, and held office until recently. He was chairman for two periods of one year each, and was chairman of the Education Committee for a great many years. He had also represented the Trust on the Wairarapa Secondary Education Board since the amalgamation of the two boards.

Mr Jackson must go to the top of the class for nis work for the Trust. What he did not know about the working and policy of the Trust was not worth knowing. He would be a very difficult man to replace.

Mr J. Macfarlane Laing said it was a matter for regret that Mr Jackson should, on account of ill-health, have to sever his connection with the Trust, and with the town, after such lengthy service.

Tributes to the value of Mr Jackson’s work on the Trust were paid by Mr E. G. Eton, who said that apart from his ability as a headmaster, Mr Jackson had also been a good and active citizen.

Mr R. Krahagen said they all appreciated the work and interest of Mr Jackson, who had given of his very best to the town. After the remarks had been endorsed by several other speakers, the motion was carried unanimously.
