AUSTRALIAN AND UNITED STATES. SLOW BUT SATISFACTORY PROGRESS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. WASHINGTON, May 5. American officials express confidence that the new Australian Cabinet will generally not impede the progress of the preliminary conversations regarding the trade treaty between Australia and America, which are continuing slowly but satisfactorily. The Secretary of State, Mr Cordell Hull, told the Australian Associated Press that he had not heard any protests from Australia or other primary producers relative to the contemplated barter agreement between the United Staes, Britain and the Netherlands in respect to cotton, rubber and wheat for a war emergency. . He stressed the fact that the barter should not in any way depress world prices since every safeguard against this would be devised by the negotiators.
