FURTHER £1 PER TON RISE ANNOUNCED. POSITION IN MASTERTON. Following an announcement of a further rise in the price of sugar of £1 per ton, making an advance of £3 per ton in the past four weeks, the Masterton Grocers’ Association has fixed the net cash price at 21s 9d per bag, with small lots at 4Jd per lb. Two or three stores, not members of the association, are selling sugar at cheaper rates. No reason appears to have been given for the recent increases, but one Masterton retailer is inclined to the view that no doubt there is some connection with the shortage of supplies reported in England, which is forcing up’ prices there.
