LONDON QUOTATIONS HEAVYWEIGHT LAMBS EASIER. CHILLED BEEF FIRMER. Lamb market: Prices for heavyweights easier, others unchanged; consumption Very good and improving. Mutton market: Wethers, quiet and unchanged; ewes, with heavier arrivals prices slightly easier. Beef market: Frozen beef, prices nominal; chilled beef, firmer on the good trade and lighter supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Lightweights easier, medium-weights firmer; trade generally slow. New Zealand baconer pigs. Slightly easier, owing to lower prices Continental bacon. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday, May 4. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week on which this list is issued. All prices are on the basis of delivered'to Smithfield market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses: New Zealand Sheep—Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes: 481 b and under, 4Jd (41d); 491 b to 561 b, 3 7-8 d (3 7-8 d); 571 b to 641 b, 3id (31d); 651 b to 721 b, 3|d (3jd). Ewes: 481 b and under, 3 3-8 d (3 3-8 d); 491 b to’ 561 b, 27-8 d (3d); 571 b to 641 b, 25-8 d (22d); 651 b to 721 b, 2Jd (21d). Best North Island xbd lambs, 28/36, 6 3-8 d; 36/42, 6d. North Island 2nd quality lambs av. 30/311bs, 6 3-Bd. Best North Island wether sheep under 481bs, 41d; 48/56, 3 7-8 d; 56/64, 3£d; 64/72, 3.|d. North Island ewes, under 481bs, 3 3-8 d; 48/56, 27-8 d; 56/64’s 25-8 d; 64/72’s 2jd. N.Z. prime ox beef, 160/2201b5, none offering. Compared with last week’s quotations, Down lambs are l-8d per lb lower; crossbred lambs 28/361bs l-8d per lb lower; 36/421bs Id per lb lower; 2nd quality lambs, l-8d per lb lower; ewes 48/641bs, l-8d per lb lower. Others are unchanged. The market is quiet, and prices where changed are in buyers’ favour, but it is hoped that the lamb realisations are at their lowest level. ' . | NEW ZEALAND MEAT. RETAIL PRICES IN LONDON. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has been advised by its Lnodon Office, that the following retail prices were being quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton retailed in London during April, 1939. These prices represent a fair average of the prices quoted by the better class shops in London for the best quality of New Zealand lamb and mutton. Lamb: —Legs, 12d per lb.; shoulders, lid: loins, lid; necks, 6d; breasts, 3d; forequarters, 8d; hindquarters, Mutton (wethers): —Legs, per lb.; shoulders, 7jd; loins, 7|d; necks, 3d; breasts, 3d.
