GIBRALTAR DEFENCES

BARRICADES AT LA LINEA. REMOVED. BRITISH AND FRENCH WARSHIPS DEPART. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. GIBRALTAR, May 3. The Royal Engineers have removed the barricades at La Linea. British and French warships have departed eastward. It was reported on April 13 that the continual arrival of Spanish troops, fields guns and machine-guns at the frontier of Gibraltar, was causing alarm. The Royal Engineers barricaded the road on the Gibraltar north front, and motor-cars and buses were not permitted to enter or leave after sunset. It is believed that the barricade was a precautionary step after troop movements near La Linea.
