FRANCE BARS IMPORTS FROM JAPAN. “PURELY ECONOMIC MOTIVE.” By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) PARIS. May 3. A decree bans all /Japanese imports, except silk and camphor. French Consular agents in Japan are empowered, in certain circumstances, to grant export licences for certain classes of goods embraced in the general prohibition. It is explained that the decree has a purely economic motive, namely to reduce an unfavourable trade balance.
