ITALIAN OVERTURE
ATTEMPT TO CONCILIATE EGYPT RESPECT FOR TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY. WHILE BRAUCHITSCH VISITS LIBYA. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. ROME, May 3. Coincidentally with the arrival in Libya of General von Brauchitsch, Commander-in-Uhief of the German Army, and General Pariani, Comman-der-in-Chief of the Italian Army, King Victor Emanuel sent a message to King Farouk affirming Italy’s intention to respect Egypt's territorial integrity and other interests.
This is regarded as an attempt to counteract anti-Italian propaganda in the Mediterranean and to gain support for Italy’s Suez Canal claim.
