REGENT THEATRE
“THREE LOVES HAS NANCY.” Refreshingly different was the keynote of the outstanding-comedy, “Three Loves Has Nancy,” which commenced a season extending until Friday, at the Regent Theatre last night. Last night’s crowded house were treated to a delightful variation of the stereotyped love triangle —a “quadrangular tangle.” Principal roles are played by Janet Gaynor who gives an excellent portrayal of an innocent small-town girl in New York. Robert Montgomery as a nonchalant, writer, and Franchot Tone as a suave publisher, give good account of themselves. Claire Dodd, as an actress with an ulterior motive, Guy Kibbee, the helpless father in the situation, and Reginald Owen as a butler with light-fingered tendencies, round off a fine supporting cast. The story, laid against a' background of ultra-modern New York life, tells of the troubles resulting from a novelist’s casual invitation to a small-town girl to avail herself of his help if she ever encountered trouble on a visit to the big city. She does. The manner in which three men become involved in an unusual and frantic courtship of the girl provides reason for the loud laughter that the picture evokes. An excellent supporting programme includes “Man’s Greatest Friend,” a Pete Smith specialty; “Feed ’Em And Weep,” “Our Gang” comedy; “How To Watch Football,” a particularly amusing Robert Benchley Comedy; “Tupapaoo,” M.G.M. miniature and the latest overseas newsreel, the whole making an outstanding programme.
