PALMERSTON NORiH ASSAULT CASE. VICTIM STILL SERIOUSLY ILL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. Some concern was felt in Palmerston North since Miss Constance Hallam, employed at Massey College, was struck on the head and seriously injured at the city boundary on the evening of April 26. Following the discovery of an iron bar at the spot, a constant police patrol was maintained in the nearby park. Yesterday a constable saw a youth cycling with an eighteen inch iron bolt under his coat. The youth was detained. Ho appeared in the Juvenile Court today, facing charges of theft, of being a rogue and vagabond in that he .was armed with an offensive weapon and also with doing grievous bodily harm to Miss Hallam. A remand was granted so that the youth could be examined by an alienist before the case was proceeded with. Miss Hallam is still seriously ill.
