MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT
sp MOTORIST CRASHES INTO SHOP WINDOW. DRUNK IN CHARGE OF CAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Alter crashing through the plateclass window of a cake shop in Hataitai shortly after midnight, James Cowc Gibson backed out again and was later stopped by a policeman who had hailed a passing motorist and followed Gibson til! he was able-to get ahead of and stop him. Gibson. 59, an electrician, came before Mr Stout. S.M., on a charge of intoxication in charge of a ear. He pleaded guilty and sentenced to a month's imprisonment with hard labour and his licence was cancelled and lie was prohibited from holding mm for two years. The constable said that when he got the defendant out of the car he was unable to stand without aid and showed all the indications of advanced intoxication. He was later examined by a doctor, who stated that he was not in a fit state to drive a car. Counsel said Gibson would be called upon to pay in the vicinity of £250 damages caused by the accident, which was in itself a severe penalty and asked that that be taken into account. Mr Stout. S.M., said the case was more serious than that which usually came before the Court and it was not one that could be met with a fine.
