A severe earthquake occurred in in the Akita Prefecture. The latest casualty report is 26 persons killed and 33 injured. Thousands are homeless, while many are camping out, fearing further shocks. A tidal wave washed 70 houses at ,the village of Aikawa out to sea, killing seven persons and injuring scores. Many are missing.
