HUME MEMORIAL CUP. FIRST ROUND RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The weather was ideal for golf on Saturday when the first round for the William Hume Memorial Cup was played by members of the local Golf Club. The greens were fair, although recent rains had greatly improved them. Trevor Hume recorded a brilliant 39’going out but in the run home had a score of 45. However his score was sufficient to return him a net score of 69, which was the best net score for the day. The following were the scores: —W. T. Hume 84-15-69; K. Waiwera 92-21-71; M. Waiwera 95-22-73; J. Carter 94-20-74; B. McMaster 83-8-75; Mrs Tikao 112-37-75; G. Munro 88-12-76; $l. Herangi 95-18-77; D. Jones 93-14-79; G. Hall 99-20-79; R. McDougall 98-18-80; D. Tikao 93-12-81; G. Sutherland 97-15-82; Mrs McKenzie 124-41-83; Mrs Carter 118-33-85; Mrs Bragg 121-35-86; Mrs Herangi 126-37-89; Mrs Sutherland 124-34-90; F. Lovegrove 120-27-93. The following is the draw for the second round on Saturday:—Ladies: Mrs Carter v Mrs McKenzie; Miss Cox v Mrs Sutherland; Mrs Herangi v Mrs Bragg; Mrs Warren v Mrs McLeod; Mrs Tikao v Miss McDougall. McDougall; G. Munro v D. Tikao. In the Doughty Cup matches B. McMaster lost to J. Carter but recorded wins against K. Waiwera and M. Herangi. The latter and J. Carter finished all square, while K. Waiwera beat M. Herangi. School Committee Meeting. The local school committee held a meeting on Thursday evening. All the members were present with the exception of Mr Riwai, who was indisposed. Accounts totalling £l2 were passed for payment. Correspondence was received from the National Peace League, and after discussion decision on the matter was deferred. The secretary reported that the books and accounts had been returned from the board duly audited. Several minor details were discussedand dealt with. The secretary reported that next year would be the 50th anniversary of the school. The committee will at' a future meeting discuss what steps should be taken to commemorate the occasion. r Personal Items. Mr Russell Hall, who is now an officer in the Prisons Department- at Taupo, visited his parents at the weekend. Mr J. Busch, Wellington, was a visitor for the weekend. Messrs Mason, Wellington, were the guests of Mr Mikaera, Te Kohai, Te Hopai, at the weekend. Mrs C. E. Holmes, Te Hopai, who has been visiting the Marlborough Sounds, has returned home. Mr and Mrs Matenga were visitors to Waipukurau to see their son. Lake Opened.

The outlet of the Lake, which was opened last Monday week and closed again that evening, was successfully opened on Friday.
