QUEEN CARNIVAL. ENJOYABLE CARD PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) .There was a good attendance at the 500 card party held at the home of Mr and Mrs J. W. Fellingham in aid of the Blue Queen, Miss Anne Fellingham. The prize winners were as follow: — Ladies: Mesdames Tutbury and A. Tait. Men: Messrs J. B. Davis and Cassidy. "■ The competitions resulted as follows: —Duchess set, Mr Staples; box of chocolates, Mrs Fellingham. Euchre Party and Dance. The euchre party and dance in aid of the Green Queen, Miss Nancy Corlet, which was held in the Pihautea Hall on Saturday night was not as well attended as usual owing to there being so many counter attractions. The card tournament winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Riki, 1; Miss B. Warrington, 2. Men: Mr S. Pound, 1; Mr H. Frew, 2. Children’s Party. The children’s party held in aid pi the Blue and Gold queens was of a most enjoyable character, about 100 children being present. Games and competitions were arranged by Miss Jean Tutbury and Mr Phil Clark. Golf Competitions. The first round for the Featherston Golf Club’s Stableford competition for Mr Lang’s trophy, held on Saturday, resulted as follows: —J. McAllum, 25, 11, 36, receives 3 points; D. Howells, 18, 14, 32, 2 points; J. Wilson, 26, 6, 31, and W. Jeffrey, 20, 11, 31, J point each. The first round for/, the shield will commence next Saturday afternoon, and an all-day match with Tui Glen will be played on Sunday next. Rainfall Record. ' During April 4.32 inches of rain fell in Featherston. There were ten days with rain, the maximum fall being 2'35 inches on April 9. In April, 1938, there were 24 wet days, the total -fall being 10.01 inches. Vital Statistics. Five births and one death were registered in Featherston in April. There were no marriages. Personal. Mr W. Galbraith has decided to retire from the active list of horse trainers, and the last meeting of the Wairarapa Racing Club was the first for close on thirty years that a horse trained by him did not figure on the programme. Before taking up training, Mr Galbraith won many races as a jockey on the flat and over hurdles, his last ride being on the late Mr C. F. Vallance’s Rac Ma, when he won the hurdle race at the last meeting of the Lower Valley Jockey Club at Martinborough in 1911.
