NATIONAL GOVERNMENT PROSPECTS SIR E. PAGE’S REPORTED PLEDGE. PROPOSAL TO MR MENZIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. Mi- E. B. Maher, leader of the Queensland Country Party, has given the Queensland Central Council of the Party a pledge that he will propose to the Prime Minister (Mr R. G. Menzies) the formation of a National Government, the Prime Minister to be elected by a joint meeting of all parties prepared to co-operate. This would mean the United Australia Party and the Country Party, as the Labour Party will definitely not join in such an arrangement.
