DEMAND FOR DANZIG
NOW AT HEAD OF HITLER’S LIST Germany Said to Want 15-Mile Corridor DETERMINED OPPOSITION IN POLAND MILLION MEN TO BE KEPT UNDER ARMS By Telegraph. —Press Association.’ -Copyright. LONDON, May 1. The “Gazeta Polska,” the Polish Government’s_ official organ, deciares’that the German attitude creates a situation forcing Poland to go farther in her demands concerning the status of Danzig than when she concluded the pact with Germany in 1934. The demands are not specifically stated, but the Warsaw correspondent of ‘‘The Times” says that there is reason to believe that they include the transference of the League Commissioner’s functions to the Polish Government. It is stated in Berlin that the return of Danzig to the Reich will now head Herr Hitler’s list of demands. The Nazi Press has begum a violent campaign against Poland reminiscent of those against Czechoslovakia and Austria. It is reported that Germany demanded a 15-mile wide lane through the corridor to Da,nzig. A conference held in Warsaw today between President Moscicki, Colonel Beck, Polish Foreign Minister, and the Prime Minister, M. Skladkowski, decided to keep about 1,000,000 men under arms throughout the summer and not to relax any of the defence measures taken during the March crisis. It is officially stated in Warsaw that the Polish Government has not heard of the German proposals to Poland which Herr Hitler claimed had been delivered before his speech on Friday. It is stated in Berlin that Dr von Dircksen, German Ambassador to Britain, will be returning to London this week.
