REGISTER OF GIRLS
SOME POSSIBILITIES OF FACTORY EMPLOYMENT Industrial Development of District MORE INQUIRIES BEING MADE LOCALLY In order to be able to answer, with some degree of accuracy. inquiries as to the probable supply of girls available in the Wairarapa.for factory employment, the “Times-Age” proposes to compile a register of girls desiring such employment, io this end the co-operation of parents and guardians is invited. Details are urgently required and those interested are invited to send in names, ages and addresses to “Employment Register,” “Times-Age” Office, Masterton. _ , Some few weeks ago, following’ an advertisement ior gnls for a factory proposed to be established in Masterton, a series of articles was published stressing the need for pressing the claims of the Wairarapa as an area suited for industrial, development. As a result of representations macle by the “TimesAge” to certain authorities in Wellington, a second inquiry has now been received. The first factory will almost certainly be established in Masterton and will employ some 10 or more girls. The second inquiry relates to a much larger venture to employ approximately 40 girls to commence with and later expanding to use a staff of'6o hands. Naturally, in the early stages of establishment, details of the nature of both industries are confidential but parents, guardians and girls can be assured that the nature of the work would be congenial and interesting. Neither inquiry relates to the establishment of any heavy industry and both propositions, it is stated, would definitely be attractive' to local-girls. Good wages, good working conditions and short hours are features of both factories and there need be no doubts, it is considered, on the score of type of employment. The establishment of such industries in the Wairarapa would mean much to the district and parents and guardians are urged to allow their girls who desire such employment to register at cyice so that the “Times-Age” can supply accurate details in reply to inquiries received. The registration, of course, will be purely tentative and will not in any way commit those sending in their names until the actual conditions of any employment that may be offering have been made known and approved in detail.
