“A SLIGHT CASE OF MURDER.” The current programme at the Cosy Theatre, headed by “A Slight Case of Murder,” will be finally shown tonight. “MURDER GOES TO COLLEGE.” Lynne Overman and Roscoe Karns made their first appearance together as a comedy team in Paramount’s “Murder Goes To College,” a breezy mystery story which opens at the Cosy Theatre tomorrow. The story deals with the murder of a college professor who had made the mistake of applying his knowledge of mathematics to beat the policy game. Overman’s first discovery is that the professor was in league with gang-leader Larry Crabbe, and that just before the murder there had been a quarrel between the two. The professor’s sister, Miss Hunt, his wife, Astrid Allwyn, and a half dozen professors who were in the slain man’s debt, are also suspected. All the suspects are involved with the dead man and eager to keep out of scandal. Overman takes advantage of this by approaching each secretly and offering to pin the guilt on another—for a fee. This further complicates the case and he finds himself the centre of some pretty intensive cross-fire. He gets his man, however, and collects his fees while Karns, who had interspersed business with a little romance, gets Miss Hunt.

A brilliant cast, an excellent story and superb direction, well spiced with action, comedy and tense drama, combine to make of “Exclusive,” the other feature of the season’s real hit films. Using a battle between two rival newspapers as its background, the story concerns the sacrifice a father is forced to make when he must choose between strict adherence to the newspaper code or betrayal of his own daughter. The cast is headed by Fred Mac Murray, Frances Farmer and Charlie Ruggles, and includes Lloyd Nolan, Fay Holden, Ralph Morgan and a score of other noted players.
