MR NASH’S DEPARTURE

FAREWELL GATHERING IN WELLINGTON. SAILING FROM AUCKLAND • TODAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Ministerial colleagues, heads of State departments, members of the secretarial corps, trade union representatives, personal friends and members of the Minister’s family were on the Wellington railway station platform last evening to bid farewell to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, who left by the Limited Express for Auckland on the first stage of his journey to England. The Minister, who is going Home to discuss with the British authorities questions relating to trade relationships between New Zealand* and the United Kingdom, the redemption and refinancing of the loan falling due this year, and defence, will sail by the Monterey for San Francisco late this afternoon. He should arrive at London about the end of the month. Mr Nash was accompanied by his private secretary, Mr T. R. Aickin. Mrs Nash and Mrs Aickin are travelling with their husbands. For the railway journey to Auckland the party had the use of the Ministerial carriage. They arrived on the platform about 20 minutes before the Limited was due to depart and as the express steamed out cheers were given for the departing Minister. All members of the party had a busy time saying last-minute farewells and in receiving good wishes for a successful and enjoyable trip Home and a safe return.

The party on the platform included the Prime Minister, Mr Savage; the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand. Sir Harry Batterbee; the Minister of Education, Mr Fraser; the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones; the Minister of Labour, Mr Webb; the Minister of Housing. Mr Armstrong; the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Lee Martin; the Leader of the Legislative Council, Mr Fagan; and Mr Brindle, M.L.C.
