CALLS TO FIRES

WORK OF MASTERTON BRIGADE. INCREASE ON LAST YEAR. A total fire loss of £1383 Is fid was reported by the Superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade, Mr T. B. Clark, in his annual report, submitted to last night’s meeting of the Masterton Fire Board. Mr Clark said that there were 83 calls Io fires or supposed fires during the year, an increase of 23 as compared with last year. There were 20 false alarms, G of which wore maliciously given. The estimated loss of property covered by insurance was £1,186 14s 3d and the estimated loss of properly not covered amounted to £196 7s, leaving £1,383 7s, as the total fir<? loss for the year. The estimated value of the property involved was £121,205 and the insurance on the property was £89,415. Two eases of injury at fires were reported mid the brigade answered 4 calls outside the board's district. A. new pumping uni I of 500 gallons capacity was purchased during the year.
