MEETING OF WAIRARAPA SOCIETY SATISFACTORY FINANCIAL POSITION. QUESTION OF ROYAL SHOW ORGANISATION. ("Times-Age” Special.) The president, Mr James Fisher, occupied the chair at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society, held at Carterton this morning. There was a good attendance of members. Mr Fisher extended a welcome back to the secretary, Mr L. H. Smart, after his visit to the Sydney Royal Show. Mr Smart expressed very sincere thanks to the society for sending him to Sydney. It had been a wonderful trip and had Been an eye-opener to him. Reference was macle to the recovery of Mr Fisher from his recent illness and the hope was expressed that he would continue to enjoy good health. A vote of condolence was passed with Mr John Oates, a foundation member, in the death of his wife. The treasurer, Mr G. Brown, reported a total credit balance of £640 10s lid. Receipts since last meeting amounted to £42 5s 9d and accounts amounting to £llO 7s 8d were passed. A net profit of £69 13s was made on the year's working. Although revenue returns were down, savings had been made in expenditure, which indicated careful management. The financial position was quite satisfactory. Referring to the balance sheet, Mr Smart said that revenue for the year amounted to £2519 and expenditure to £2313. After paying all expenses, a profit of £69 13s was made in the general account although £l2O had been paid off the society's office building, which was a very satisfactory position. Repairs during the year accounted for £l2B. On all accounts a'profit of £241 13s 4d had been m.-.-r?.

The Carterton Young Farmers’ Club wrote thanking the society for the use of a hall for meetings and enclosing a donation of £1 Is as a mark of appreciation. In moving that the club be thanked for its donation, Mr Fisher suggested that :: member of the club be appointed a member of the society without voting power. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on May 20. Messrs Levin and Co. forwarded a donation of £2 2s for the use of hurdles for a stock fair. Discussing a letter from the Royal Society. Mr Smart said: "I am satisfied in my own mind that the Royal Show will never be a success until the society runs itself i.n its own ground and on different dates io any other show." Mr A. E. Hall: "It is nothing but a glorified local show as it stands.” Mr Smart, at the conclusion of business. gave a most interesting and informative review of his visit to the Sydney Royal Show, which he said was an example Lr all shows to live up to.
