A number of £1 notes which have been split in two have bcc-n given to Wellington shopkeepers recently as genuine notes. Some of the notes have a light-coloured paper pasted on in place of the side which had been torn off to make them up to the usual thickness of note paper. The person who performed the operation must have gone to considerable trouble to separate the two sides of the notes, as there was no sign on the printed half of the notes that they had been tampered with. It was. only when the note was turned over that it could be seen that there was one side missing.
