MOUNTED “TRAMPERS”
INNOVATION IN FRANCE. France, like every other country, suffers from the attractions of the towns drawing away the population from the countryside. All sorts of methods are employed to keep the people on the land. Travelling cinemas visit outlying villages, as well as automobile library services. Now a movement has been inaugurated for the better organising of sports and pastimes. At Dourdan, a “Day of the Horse” has just been held. Its object was not an exhibition of fine horses but a demonstration of how the horses used on the farms can be trained for local sports. One idea is that parties of riders shall make long journeys on horseback on Sunday’s to visit different parts of their region, and horsemanship contests will also be organised.
