Saint John—Used in the manufacture of artificial pearls and pearl handles for knives ,ilic scales of the lowly herring have proved a boon to Canadian fishermen. Herring scales which a few years ago wore considered as waste material have benefited New Brunswick fishermen in 1938 to the extent of 12.100 dollars.
