MATERNITY BENEFITS
STATEMENT BY MINISTER. APPEAL FOR CO-OPERATION. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A comprehensive statement on maternity benefits under the Government’s social security' scheme was issued today by the Hon P. Fraser (Minister of Public Health). Mr Fraser said he believed there was general agreement that Ihe provision of efficient maternity srvices was one of the most important objectives that could be aimed at in a national health scheme, and he appealed for wholehearted co-operation by medical men. nurses, private hospital liccncees and the general public to make the maternity benefit section a great success. After outlining benefits under the scheme and organisa lion regarding its inception, the Minister stated that every effort had been made to provide the best type of service and to be fair to both doctor and patient. He added that it was estimated that the provision of maternity benefits section would cost the Social Security scheme upwards of half a million pounds per anhurh.
