The Lord Chancellor, replying to a debate in the House of Lords which followed on the lines of that in the House of Commons, said: “This is a moment of extreme gravity in the history of Britain and the Empire. The possibility' of hostilities with the greatest. military Power the world has ever known must be reckoned with. The onus resting on the Prime Minister and Foreign and Defence Ministers is almost more than any human being should be asked to bear.
The House of Lords approved the Govermm. nt-. action with out a divi= sicn.
