ESPERANTO
MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. At the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club held last evening in the clubroom, Municipal Buildings, Mr A. Dewar, D.8.E.A., presided over a very satisfactory attendance. The secretary reported that correspondence in Esperanto received from abroad during the week comprised letters from Hungary and England, and the 32-page official organ of the International Esperanto League, “Esperanto Internacia,” published in Holland. The monthly circular letter issued by (he New Zealand Esperanto Association to Domonion clubs also came before the meeting, which made decisions regarding routine matters of the Esperanto movement in the Dominion. In a brief address .to members, Mr W. H. King, vice-president of the N.Z.E.A., mentioned that after providing instructions in Esperanto for several years in telephone call boxes in Amsterdam and at The Hague, the Dutch Telegraph Administration had found the innovation so successful that it had decided to instal Esperanto instructions in all call boxes throughout Holland. In Bulgaria, owing to the interest shown in Esperanto transmissions from Radio Sofia, broadcasts in the international language had recently been increased. Similarly, the Italian authorities were including an additional short-wave station among those already giving regular talks in Esperanto. Incidentally, Italy had for some time been issuing a 32-page monthly programme booklet entirely in Esperanto. • Excellent progress was made by the elementary and advanced classes, which continued the study of the international language under the guidance of Mr Dewar and Mr King. The programme concluded with an Esperanto reading by Mrs E. J. Esler ("Mia Klientino”).
