WAIRARAPA COLLEGE
MEETING OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapra College Board of Governots was held last evening. There were present Messrs W. R. Nicol (chairman), P M. Smith, Alex Donald. F. C. Daniell, W. H. Saunders, A. O. Jones, E. J. Wright and L. J. Taylor, and the Principal. Mr G. G. Hancox. An apology for absence was received from Mrs C. C. Jackson.
Mr Hancox reported that the average weekly attendance for the last five weeks had been 488, 469. 452, and 460. The attendance at the evening school had been satisfactory. Enrolments were being received, for the evening wool-classing clases. Authority was sought for commencing a class to prepare candidates for-the electiical servicemen's exomination, a new examination which would be held this year for the first time. A social was held at College House on April 22. Donations of books for the library had been received from Messrs C. Evans and Alex Donald. Donations totalling £54 7s 6d had been received towards the lorry replacement fund, and sums promised but not received, totalled £34 5s 6d. The pupils of the College subscribed £3 towards poppies for the College wreath. At Gladstone a class in woodwork had been commenced under Mr W. J. S. Musgrove and one in dressmaking under Mrs H. M. Howard. At tennis the College team drew with St Matthews. The girls’ tennis championships resulted as follow: Senior. Maureen Carroll; intermediate, Kathleen‘Ross: junior. Judith Childs. Messrs Jones and Saunders were appointed a visiting committee lb)’ the month.
