DENTAL CLINIC

MASTERTON COMMITTEE ANNUAL MEETING. RESPONSIBILITY OF PARENTS. The difficulties of the Masterton Dental Clinic Committee resulting from the poor response from parents in the payment of fees for the treatment of their children at the clinic were discussed at length at the annual meeting of the committee last night when it was decided to leave the matter of policy to the incoming committee to consider.

Mr .Alex Donald, who presided, referred to the satisfactory work being carried out by the dental nurses and to the appointment of a third nurse, which had enabled arrears 10 be overtaken. Advice had been received from the Department of Health to the effect that Miss Berney was being temporarily transferred to Palmerston North as from May 22. Making reference to the policy of the committee in asking for payment prior to treatment being given to the children, Mr Donald said that it would appear that a number of children were not receiving treatment owing to the inability or otherwise of the parents to pay 5s per child per year asked for. While some parents took some interest in their children by making application to the committee for free treatment, it appeared that there were many others who did not take advantage of securing treatment on those lines. Mr Donald referred to the resignation of the secretary. Mr W. V. Madden, after a period of service extending over eight years. All members, he* said, regretted Mr Madden’s resignation. A resolution was passed placing on record the committee’s appreciation of Mr Madden’s services. Mr W. A. Clarke was appointed secretary in succession to Mr Madden. Following cn the resignation of the chairman, reported in another column. Mr W. R. Nicol was appointed io the position pro tern. Mr E. K. Eastwood was f-lcetod as auditor.
