SUCCESSFUL YEAR

MASTERTON GUN CLUB MEETING. INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP. There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Masterton Gun Club, held last night. Mr J. C. Holmes occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mr C. E. Grey referred to the good work done during' the year by the secretary, Mr G. F. Birkett, and his remarks were endorsed by several other speakers. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Patron, Mr C. E. Grey; president, Mr J. C. Holmes; vice-presidents, Messrs P. Borthwick, V. E. Donald, W. R. Birch and A. Allison; hon auditor, Mr D. B. Curry; secretary and. treasurer, Mr G. F. Birkett; executive, Messrs A. Mclvor, E. C. Fowler, M. A. Rawlins, W. O. Wilton, L. Meredith, L. Lambess, H. Smith, W. Harding, E. Aplin, F. Yule, junr, L. Graham, R. Hollis. It was decided to hold a trial on June 4 probably at Wairarapa Lake.

On the, motion of Mr E. Fowler it was decided to raise membership subscriptions to 7s 6d owing to the compulsory insurance scheme now in operation. Regret was expressed at Mr' Grey’s refusal to again accept the office of president and reference was made to his splendid work on behalf of the club over a long period of years. ANNUAL REPORT. The'annual report stated: —“With the keen, wholehearted support of this committee, who have left no stone unturned to assist the club in many ways, undeniable progress has been made that places us on a firm financial and established footing, which is far different than the proceeding year and the position that we were in when I read last year’s report. Our membership at present is 43, compared with the 14 last year. This indeed speaks for itself apart from the solid position financially that we enjoy at present. As against our credit balance of £1 10s 7d last year we can now show a credit balance of £2O Is 6d. This is indeed satisfactory, considering that our expenditure has been unusually heavy owing to unforeseen • circumstances. During the past year six trials have been held and, with the exception of two, a fairly large credit balance resulted". Competition was also much keener in trials and our entry lists show an appreciable increase. Tis seems to indicate that the pi esent year will show even more interest ana a better financial return that this. Much assistance, both financially and otherwise, -has been rendered by many people outside the club and it is to these that I would like to tender my sincere thanks and appreciation for their kind assistance in helping us surmount many obstacles. Our thanks are due in a large measure to Mr Harry Nee for the use of his grounds for the running of our trials. We must not forget the ladies in our thanks for many have given us great assistance during the last twelve months.” The report was signed by the retiring president. Mr C. E. Grey.
