CONSUL “PUZZLED”
GERMAN FLAG INCIDENT IN SYDNEY. APPARENT MISUNDERSTANDING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, April 26. Referring to the incident when exservicemen demonstrated outside the German Consulate against tfhe Hying of the swastika flag at full-mast on Anzac Day. Dr O. Seger, acting-German Consul in the absence of the Consul-Gen-eral. who is en route to Germany, said: "I am puzzled how in this civilised city such a misunderstanding should have arisen. "I gave instructions for our flag to be hoisted at half-mast yesterday in honour of the dead Australian heroes and it was not flown at full-mast till I saw other Hags hoisted at full-mast. However. I do not take the incident seriously, though Jho matter will be reported to the authorities in Germany.” The police report today stated that the German flag at the Consulate was flown at half-mast till noon yesterday, after which it was raised to the masthead.
