MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT

MASTERTON RESIDENT INJURED. INCIDENT AT CARTERTON. An accident attended with somewhat serious consequences occurred in High Street, Carterton. yesterday afternoon. Mr Wechsung had motored into Carterton from Clareville on business and parked his car opposite Dwane’s hairdressing establishment. Later in the afternoon he proceeded to back his car into the street. and in doing so he struck a step ladder from which Mr S. Smith, signwriter, of Masterton. was engaged in writing signs on the front of Lane's confectionery establishment. Mr Smith fell heavily to the ground and fractured the small finger of his left hand besides sustaining other injuries. Mr Smith was attended by Dr R. N. Campbell who administered first aid ordered him to the Masterton Hospital. Mr Wechsung continued to back his car into the street and collided with a lorry which was laden with heavy logs for C. E. Daniell’s Ltd sawmill at Masterton. The driver of the lorry, fortunately, saw the approaching car and pulled up. The car was not damaged.
